CNY Goodies - Shortcrust Pastry Pineapple Tarts

I love anything heart shapes...silly me but what to do I am born with this silly passion for heart shape things :p  I have been hunting for a crunchy base crust for my pineapple tarts and after asking around, I eventually settled for Gordon Ramsay's simple shortcrust pastry and it turned out better than I thought. The most important factor is my Piggies love them. Joshua is one picky fella when it comes to cookies and pies and cakes. If he say it is GOOD...it is really good coz he is really picky - has a crunchy and biscuit-ty texture crust and this one suits him and JO !  And they are cute ..ain't they :p

Roasted Chestnut Cookies

Saw this recipe from Wendy's blog ,  I knew I would love to try this out . Chestnut being my favorite  especially roasted ones.  After asking her where I can get the ready roasted ones  , and after buying them from Jusco , I came back and made them . It looks easy and really it was simple compared to other CNY cookies.  I added, vanilla extract,  cinnamon and nutmeg to it for some flavors.  Thanks Wendy for sharing this wonderful cookies with us.

CNY Goodies - Crab Flavored Filament Chips

Chinese New Year is just around the corner and Chinese from all over the world will be celebrating and welcoming the year of the Rabbit on 3rd & 4th February 2011. I am just starting to prepare for the Chinese New Year, fried some Arrowhead Chips , Crab Flavored Filament Chips and baked some Roasted Chestnuts Cookies which I will share with you later in the coming posts.  I started with the simpliest to do and that can keep longer , that is the Crab Flavored Filament chips.  It is everyone's favourite and after the first bite, you will not want to stop :)  Believe me, it is the one chips that you wish you have not taken a bite .  We will normally serve this to friends and relatives on CNY besides cookies , when they come visiting.

Sun Hat To Shade My Silvery Hair :)

I have been looking out for sun hats or visors that is suitable for my silvery hair . Doctors told me not to go out in the hot sun without a hat or umbrella and I thought it would be nice to wear a sun hat when I go for evening walks instead of holding an umbrella. It is not easy to walk with an umbrella so a sun hat would be nice . Fashionable and yet served a medical purpose for me as I have very sensitive scalp. I look looked around for one that is suitable for me and found this panama hat  that is a perfect fit for me . These panama hats are woven from the young harvested leaves of panama hat palm, practical and gives protection against wind too besides the hot scorching sun . An ideal hat for me for it is also stylish and can be rolled up when not in use. Soft and flexible for they are made from the straw and they conform to my head : )  I learned  from the website that I can remove wrinkle or dent from the hat by just dampen it with water and using a hair dryer, I will be able to  reshape it to its original shape !  A good buy no doubt !

Chocolate Mud Cake With Ganache Frosting

I find baking cakes and making bread truly therapeutic .  A therapy that brings joy to me and de-stress me best . I know I sucks when it comes to frosting and decorating a cake but nonetheless I will try to do the best I could to make the cake look good and for example this chocolate mud cake.... I topped it with ganache and decorate it with fresh cherries.  This cake was made with passion...lots of love and it was our Christmas gift to Chris's parents . ( Chris is Jo's bunny  ) They love chocolate cake so I searched online for a good one and I found one and tweaks it to their liking.  Less sweet and moist would be ideal for them :)  This is my first time making a chocolate mud cake and guess what...the feedback was good and it did manage to make my  'coconut ' swelled  for a moment LOL ! Well...we need praises once in a while to moot us to improve our baking skill  ...don't we ? :p

I am actually looking forward to a spanking new year with loads to bake and a year to banish worry, doubt and fear . To love, laugh and GIVE !!!!
