Azabu Sabo - Hokkaido Ice Cream

On my recent trip to Singapore, this is one dessert we never miss.  Yes, Hokkaido Ice Cream many flavors to choose from but my favorite is still the green tea flavor.  So yummy good ! Azabu Sabo at Clarke Quay serves very good ice cream and we girls just wanna have one before we leave for dinner.  Dessert first before dinner for once :p

Fun And Exciting Water Games With Inflatable Water Balls

I don’t know about you but I love to watch young people playing water games. They are so energetic and they have so much fun and exercise playing in the water. Have you seen a water polo game before? It is really amazing how the players can stay afloat and at the same time actively participating in the game, throwing and catching the ball. One thing for sure is that the players are all very strong and they are really good swimmers.

There are other water games that are also fun and the players need not necessary know how to swim. These games are played using large inflatable water balls. These inflatable water balls are made of transparent, odourless and durable plastic and they come in multi colours. These balls are designed for players to move on water encased inside the balls and are popular and suitable for both children and adults. The players get inside the ball through a zipper and they can choose to walk around on the water surface or simply bump into one another. Since there is no fixed rules, the children are not restricted in the way they move and bump into one another on the water. And in the midst of having fun, they are being exercised. It is important to buy good quality inflatable water balls for the safety of the players.

Another type of inflatable water ball is the water zorb ball. The difference between a zorb ball and a water ball is that water ball has one layer where else a zorb ball has more layers than the water ball. When I was in Singapore last week, I find some time to meet up with a dear friend whom I got to know through blogging 8 years ago and have not got the opportunity to meet her in person until my recent trip to Singapore. She is Grace of Piggy's Cooking Journal.  I  visits her blog often and love trying out the recipes she so generously shared with us on her blog.  It was awesome meeting her and her lil princess Rae Ann.  Though our meet up was short , the 40 mins we shared together was like we have known each other for decades :)  Grace has a  cheerful and bubbly personality and I hope to be able to meet up with her again on my next trip to Singapore. 

She gifted me this delicious Juchheim  cake....thank you Grace, hubby and I love this chocolate flavor one very much. I was first introduced to this cake, different flavor, by my daughter Elaine last Christmas when she gifted me one.

How You Can Damage The Environment By Drinking Bottled Water

You may have read advice that you need to drink eight average sized glasses of water each day to remain healthy. This is not entirely true; everyone requires a different amount of liquid intake in order to remain healthily hydrated. That being said, it’s important to make sure you stay hydrated and drinking water is an excellent way of making sure this happens.

The healthiest way to obtain water to drink is filtering your tap water. Water filtration removes additives and dirt from your water supply and makes it safe and tasty for you to drink. There are several different water filtration solutions on the market including whole building filtration systems and under sink water filters. If you want a clean water supply for your office building you may want to invest in drinking water fountains. As you can see, it’s not a good idea to drink bottled water if your aim is to have a clean and healthy water supply. It’s also not good for the environment. Corned Beef Rolls

Just back from Singapore.  As promised, will be sharing the recipe for making these delectable corned beef rolls. Making bread is fun and to feel the dough stretching to window pane stage is so therapeutic . I styled them into 2 designs. One is the swiss roll type and the other is the rose shaped . Sorry , I am still learning to refine my styling :p)  After baking the rose did not stay in shape.  I believe practice makes perfect.  Though the rose buns are not nicely shaped BUT the texture and taste is wonderful ! Both taste the same just different in shape.  I love making different was fun , like play doh for adults :) Anyway here is the promised recipe .   Hope you like it as much as we do :) 

ingredients are half a tin of corned beef mashed and blend together with
diced red onions, chillies and diced green pepper

divide dough into two portions - one for the rolls and
one for the rose shape buns
for the rolled buns, roll out 1st portion of dough into 
rectangular shape of 1/4" thickness,
spread the mashed corned beef mixture on surface. 
Place the long side facing you and start rolling 
towards the end like how you roll a  swiss roll .

cut into equals parts and place them on greased baking tray
and let them proof for 25 mins , then bake in preheated oven of 180C
for 15 to 20 mins till golden brown and cooked

for the 2nd portion of dough, divide into equal portions, flatten dough
and roll into a round disc.  Cut slit from outside inward as shown in the
picture above. Place a heaped tablespoon of corned beef mixture in the centre
and wrap as shown in the picture below

place the shaped rose bun on greased tray and let proof for 25 mins,
bake in preheated oven of 180C for  15 -20 mins till golden brown

Corned Beef Rolls - adapted from Sonia 
I double the ingredients to make 2 different shapes

400g High Protein Flour or Bread Flour
260g cold milk 
70g sugar
6g instant yeast (1/2 tsp + 1/4 tsp)
1/4 tsp salt
50g butter, room temperature

Corned Beef Fillings
( mix all the ingredients together )

1/2 tin of corned beef -mashed
1/2 green pepper - diced
1 red chilli - sliced
1/2 red onion - diced

To make the dough

Mix all ingredients except butter in a mixing bowl, combine and knead till smooth.
Add in butter, continue to knead till elastic and smooth dough. Keep aside to rise till double in size.

Divide into 2 portions - one for the rolled buns and one for the rose shape.

Gibson SG

My son loves music and he plays the piano and guitar well . He started learning to play the guitar when he was a young boy of age 10.  Hardly can hold the guitar I can still remember :) He will just strum the guitar as if he knows how to .  Well , today he is a good guitarist and he keep changing guitars often. I know he is eyeing this Gibson SG for sometime now.  Well, I am in favor of him selling off his old one and get this Gibson SG after all Christmas is just around the corner . He should reward himself one since he will be joining his colleagues in music jamming during the weekends.

Gibson SG gives Smooth, efficient performance with a vintage vibe and I seriously think he has made a good choice.  A musician knows best though.

Special Tau Fu Fah @ Concubine Lane

There are many good Tau Fu Fah in Ipoh town and this is one of them.  This Tau Fu Fah comes with palm sugar syrup and has  brown sugar sprinkle on top  and garnished with  toasted black sesame seeds.  You can get a good bowl of Tau Fu Fah from Concubine Lane.  It is one of the attraction from Concubine Lane.  I never forget to stop by here for a good bowl of tau fu fah after a good lunch at Thean Chun Coffee Shop. Concubine Lane is just opposite Thean Chun Coffee Shop in Ipoh Old Town. It is crowded during weekends and school holidays .

Blunt Bangs Bob Cosplay Wig

Wigs are back in fashion.  When I was in my twenties, I used to change my hair style very often. At least once a month, I will visit my hair stylist and ask to have new hair style.  My hair used to be long and has natural curls.  I remembered asking my hair stylist to  style my hair like the one actress Jacklyn Smith, one of Charlie's Angel Girls is having:) So cool..right!  And my hair stylist will give me a kind of look as if to say " sorry lady, you don't have that much hair to have her hair style " LOL!
This beautiful Ombre Wig will do for now.  It looks simple and elegant. It will definitely make me look younger than my present hair style :p  Seriously, it is a good idea to wear convenient and one can look beautiful at any dinner function without having to make appointment with the hair stylist and most important, hair stylist may not be able to give you a good cut.
But now it is so different for me, the hair is thinning and turning grey too , thus wearing a wig would solve all the problems.  I can have any hair style I like.  Save trip to the hair stylist and I can have new hair style every day :) I decided to have a look at all the wigs and maybe I should get a few so that I can have cosmetic done for the hair.  Hair is  most important for the ladies.  Looking great  will uplift one's image.  I found a few great ones and that will make me look great :)   Heat Resistant Synthetic Wig is good for hot weather like ours.  I quite like this 10" Blunt Bangs Bob Cosplay wig, comes in black, dark brown and light brown. Simple Banana Cake - Revisited

Last month I baked a simple banana cake, recipe taken from Alan and it was so good that I had to make it again.  This time, I added sliced banana as topping and whoa, it was really good.  Hubby loves it so I had to bake again for his afternoon tea snack.  For me, I don't mind baking again as this will help improve my technique further as the saying goes " Practice Makes Perfect " :)  I love the light and fluffy texture and seriously one slice is not enough. We have to have at least 3 slices each for our tea snack.  Love the aroma of banana :)

Krank Krankenstein Amp Head

Our friend Joe has always been impressed with krank amps Head and he is excited that they have come one with an upgraded one. Krank Krankenstein + is the upgraded version of the Krankenstein.  This amp is designed by the legendary Dimebag Darrell.  Joe , our musician friend explained that the upgraded Krankenstein + has bigger, upgraded transformers and 6550 tubes in th power section. This Krankenstein ampliflier is known for its high gain sound, is now taken to the next level, 120W of massive tone.  Wow...I am sure our friend Joe this thinking of getting this upgraded one for the coming Christmas. The "Dime"channel features a 3-band EQ, volume, 2 footswitchable masters ,gain and parametric sweep control while the " Kleen" channel features a 3-band EQ and volume. And the unique feature of this amplifier head is an overall volume control for the entire amp as well as a global presence control.  And further more it has another features which include an active effects loop, ohm and voltage selectors, line out and manual channel switch.

With this upgraded new features , I guess our friend Joe is tempted to get this new one for his band :)

Simple Wedding Dresses

My niece has ordered her beach wedding gown from this online shopping  website .  She managed to get one gorgeous one from cheap simple wedding dresses uk .. I had a glimpse of her wedding gown and I am impressed by her choice. They really offers beautiful and cheap wedding dresses.  Nowadays , with this trend of shopping online, it has made shopping for dresses so much easier and my cousin and niece are pleased with their purchases.  I remembered my wedding, I have to go to the bridal shop to have mine wedding dress tailored for me. Expensive and they dont have much designs for us.  Now with online shopping, they offers a wide range of beautiful and affordable wedding dresses.  I guess I have to check out their website for dresses to attend my niece's wedding this coming December :) one that is simple and apt for a beach wedding.  I am excited and I can't wait to pick one from their wide range of beautiful dresses for the wedding event !  The one below is so right for a bride :)

Heart Shaped Buns With Nut Toppings

The whole house is filled with the aroma of freshly baked is really aromatherapy for me and hubby.  Love love these buns and can't get tired of them.  Great for afternoon tea and breakfast .  I have a bottle of kumquat compote that I made last kumquat season ( that is about 10 mths ago ) Every season, I will surely make to keep for cake making, fillings for bun or on toast.  It adds flavor to my soft and fluffy buns. I used back the butter roll recipe for the buns , for I love the texture and easy to make dough.  I have walnuts and almonds in the fridge, so I added them as topping for the buns to give it extra texture :)   Homebaked buns are versatile. You can add anything you like and make bun making fun

Heart Shaped Buns With Nut Toppings

bun dough taken  from Sonia's Butter Bread Rolls

220g bread flour
30g cake flour
1/2 tsp + 1/4tsp instant yeast
1/2 tsp fine salt
20 g caster sugar
100g fresh milk (cold from fridge)
70 g water
20g unsalted butter, room temp

homemade kumquat compote - click here for the recipe


walnuts- chopped
almonds strips


Mix all ingredients except butter in a mixer, knead till smooth

Add in butter, continue knead till elastic and smooth. Cover and keep aside to rise till doubles.

Divide dough equally into 8 portions, roll into ball,  rest for 10 mins.

For buns with fillings

Take a dough, flatten into a round disc. Fill with a tsp of kumquat compote and wrap up into a ball. Repeat till dough is finish. Place in heart shaped moulds or muffin tin and  leave to proof for another 20 mins or till it double in size.

Brush top with kumquat compote and sprinke top with chopped walnuts and baked at preheated oven at 200C for 15 mins or till golden brown.

* for those buns without filling , just roll into a round ball and place in moulds and leave to proof for 20 mins or double in size , before baking, just brush kumquat compote or apriot jam if you dont have kumquat compote and sprinkle almonds strips as topping.


Treats For Game Players

As a kid I often served the folks who came to our home game parties.  My parents were avid card game players who enjoyed games like contract bridge and bid whist.  They would often invite friends to play at our house from early evening until the following morning.  And whenever these card game parties took place my mother would make certain the guests had plenty to drink and snack on while shuffling cards, making bids and growling at one another for misplays or erroneous scoring.  As the waiter, I was charged with the task of filling and refilling bowls of snacks at each table.  This was a plum job since it meant I got to savor each snack.  I also was occasionally rewarded by the guests with a coin or two that went into my savings.  

Now when I have my own guests visit to play a car race or to play PS4 basketball or football games I maintain the family tradition by seeing that they have a selection of snacks and drinks to enjoy.  I have at least four different categories of snacks.  Like my parents always did I will have at least one tray that has a hot snack – either chicken wings or something else hot and spicy – sometimes West Indian meat patties or some tiny spring rolls with duck sauce.  For those with milder preferences I will put out some classic pot stickers that I usually stuff with crab meat and green onion.  And my final two trays usually contain brownies for those who love chocolate, and shrimp toasts that I keep warm in a slow oven until serving.

Often I have two or three different versions of trail mix – seasoned with garlic and onion powder, spiced with cayenne, and tossed in a blend of Worcestershire sauces with wine and a dash of tobacco before baking until golden brown.  All these combinations are made using bowls and containers that I obtain during my Groupon shopping sprees, where I get most of my large containers as well as baking pans and mixing bowls for great discounts.

Once prepared I put out the mixes in serving bowls for the game players to have nearby so they can easily grab a handful to munch on while enjoying a football or basketball match they play using PS4 video games obtained from Groupon’s latest listing of available games.  Since my children see that the guest bowls are constantly refilled and that drinks and supplies are handily available I am also assuring that a tradition my parents passed on to me is being maintained through the next generation of my family.

Konyaku Jelly With Mixed Fruits

A simple dessert for the weekend :)  A packet of konyaku jelly powder ( honeydew flavor ) and some mixed fruits...and tada, you have a tray of 'koi' shaped konyaku jelly for after dinner treat :)  Hubby made them and I just sit back and relax.  He has the whole kitchen to himself to make these delectable dessert.  Slightly springy in texture and the mixed fruits was a great accompaniment for the konyaku jelly.

Mini Beef Sausage Bread Roll

Back to baking buns again.  Saw this recipe on Sonia's blog and I knew I had to bake it for hubby. He loves beef sausage buns.  It has been a while since I baked for him sausage buns.  Managed to get mini beef sausages from Jusco .  The recipe is so good. Easy to make and the texture is super soft and fluffy.  I love making these little buns.  Great for afternoon tea snacks or supper.  I baked a load of twenties.  We ate some for afternoon tea and kept the rest in air tight tupper and leave in fridge till needed.  For next day consumption,  we took the buns out of the tupper from the fridge, and zapped them in microwave oven for just 30 secs and they were just as good as freshly baked ones.  So convenient to have a microwave in the kitchen :)

Mini Beef Sausage Bun - adapted from Sonia

200g High Protein Flour or Bread Flour
130g cold milk 
35g sugar
3g instant yeast (1/2 tsp + 1/4 tsp)
1/8 tsp salt
25g butter, room temperature

Mini cocktail beef sausages, defrost and pat dry, 
sesame seeds, 
egg wash (1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk)

Mix all ingredients except butter in a mixing bowl, combine and knead till smooth.

Add in butter, continue to knead till elastic and smooth dough. Keep aside to rise till double in size.

Divide the dough into 20g each and roll into small balls, rest for 10 mins.

Take a small dough, use a rolling pin to flatten it, then close two ends to make it look like a cigarette, then keep aside to rest for 10 mins.  Take a dough, use hand to roll out into a  cone shape ( like making crossaint ) Use a rolling pin , roll it flat.  Place a sausage at the bigger end, and start to roll like a swiss roll towards the end.  

Place sausage rolls on a lined baking sheet.  Repeat the rest till finished. Leave it to proof for another 30-45 mins.

Apply egg wash , then sprinkle sesame seeds on top.  Bake at a pre-heated oven 170C ( fan forced) for 15-20 mins or 180C (no fan ) for 15-20 mins.

Leather aprons are also hard wearing so you should find that one apron lasts for a considerable length of time.
Before you spend your money on a leather apron you should always check the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure that you get the level of protection you need.

Kapiti Ice Cream NZ Original @ Food & Desire

Kapiti Ice Cream - the most delicious and refreshing ice cream.  Love it and you can have it at Food & Desire .  I was introduced to this ice cream by my cousin. She took me and hubby to this cafe and I am really impressed by the ice cream.  This cafe serves fusion- ice-cream  and fondue.  When my kids were back , we took them there to try out and they too love the food and ice cream.  Here is a sneak peek at what flavors we ordered to try out. Great ice-cream, great fellowship with the family.

I love their raspberry sorbet the most. They have many flavors..triple chocolate , lemongrass , white chocolate and raspberry are nice too.  So many choices ...mmmmm looking at them again makes me crave for Kapiti again :)

More About the Difference Between Hard and Soft Water

·         Contrary to their description, water isn’t categorized by how it feels. Hard and soft water both feel the same. Instead, the two water types are divided by their mineral content.
·         Hard water has minerals in it such as calcium, magnesium, sulfur and lime that are missing in soft water. These minerals can make the water taste good, which is one reason why spring water is often used in bottled water.
·         Each type of water has its advantages and its disadvantages. Hard water, in addition to having a good flavor, binds well with soap. This can be a good thing when you’re trying to rinse all the shampoo out of your hair in the shower, but it also means that you have to use more detergent when washing your clothes.
·         A disadvantage of hard water is that it can leave behind a mineral residue. This residue can build up over time and contribute to clogged pipes. ·         Soft water, on the other hand, is easier on your dishwasher and your appliances and makes soap more effective when scrubbing pots and pans or doing a load of laundry. Simple Banana Cake

I saw a bunch of banana with speckles( pisang emas ) at a fruit stall in UTC market and straight away , I thought of Alan's simple banana cake :)  I have been wanting to bake it the moment he shared on his blog and on instagram . It is easy to make and it is really yummy.   You can hop over to Alan's blog to see his.  I still need to improve on the texture. Holes can be seen on the texture. I guess there were air bubbles in the batter when baking :p Though I have knocked and shook tin :p I always believe practice makes perfect and I know I will be able to make a perfect one :)  Thank you Alan for sharing your simple banana cake recipe with us .

Simple Banana Cake - adapted from Alan ( Travelling Foodies )
makes a 10" square tall tin

5 Eggs (large size, 65-70g w/shell)
220g Sugar
375g mashed banana
300g cake or low-gluten pastry flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
150g vegetable oil (or melted butter, except olive oil) * I used melted butter
1 banana, peeled and sliced thinly (optional)
Whisk eggs, sugar, mashed bananas at medium speed untill ribbon stage. It takes appro. 12-15 min by hand mixer.
While the mixture is being whisked, grease and line a 10″ square tin or a 2 x 8″ round tin with grease proof baking paper.
Sieve flour, baking powder and baking soda together twice and set aside.
Fold in sifted flour in 3 additions, mixing well in between each addition by using either a spatula or hand.
Add in oil and mix well till batter is shiny
Pour into baking tin from a height of 30 cm and tap the baking tin sharply against the work surface to eliminate bubbles.
If using, lay the thin banana slices over the surface of the batter.
Bake in a preheated oven at 160 degrees Celsius for 40-45mins. Unlike the top is nicely brown and an inserted skewer comes out clean.
Remove from baking tray and leave to cook on a rack to room temperature before slicing.
